BLOOMBERG OPEN TERMINAL:
NEW KEYBOARD REQUIREMENT FROM OCTOBER 2026
Bloomberg is making an important change for organizations using Bloomberg Open Terminal.
Starting October 14, 2026, each Open Terminal workstation will require a Bloomberg Keyboard for login and access. This requirement creates a physical location anchor for every workstation, helping strengthen Bloomberg’s authentication and security model.
WHAT IS CHANGING ?
-
A Bloomberg Keyboard will be required to access a Bloomberg Open Terminal.
-
The keyboard will act as the fixed location anchor for the workstation on which the Terminal is installed.
- Organizations can additionally enable two-factor authentication using the Bloomberg Keyboard.
- Bloomberg has indicated that one keyboard will be provided for each Bloomberg Open Terminal at no additional cost, where required.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR TRADING ENVIRONMENTS?
For many organizations, this will be a straightforward change. However, trading floors using shared desks, flexible seating, KVM environments, centralized workstations or advanced workplace technology should review the potential impact in advance.
Particular attention should be given to:
- Shared and flexible trading desks
- KVM and USB switching architectures
- Remote or centralized workstation environments
- Bloomberg keyboard connectivity and USB routing
- Business continuity and fallback workplaces
- Desk moves and workstation reassignment
- Authentication and access procedures
Because the Bloomberg Keyboard will become part of the Open Terminal authentication architecture, the way USB devices are connected and presented to the Bloomberg workstation may become an important part of the overall workplace design.
RECOMMENDED NEXT STEPS.
If your organization uses Bloomberg Open Terminal, identify the workstations affected by this change and review how Bloomberg Keyboards will fit into your current trading-floor setup.
If your environment includes KVM, remote access, or flexible workplace technology, validate the configuration before the October 14, 2026 deadline. Coordinate any required changes with Bloomberg and your relevant technology partners.
